Das Gutshaus Mahlsdorf wurde um 1815 erbaut und beherbergt die größte Gründerzeitsammlung Europas. Charlotte von Mahlsdorf nahm sich 1958 des vom Abriss bedrohten Gutshauses an und eröffnete am 01.08.1960 ihr Gründerzeitmuseum. Die Sammlung besteht mittlerweile aus 17 vollständig eingerichteten Wohn- und Arbeitsräumen einschließlich einer mechanischen Musikmaschinensammlung.
Alle Wohnräume sind in seltener Geschlossenheit mit Möbeln und Hausrat des einfachen und mittleren Bürgertums aus der Zeit von 1870 bis 1900. Im Souterrain befindet sich die berühmte “Mulackritze”, die älteste erhaltene Zillekneipe Berlins, mit Vereinszimmer und Hurenstube. Im Keller befinden sich seit 2017 eine herrschaftliche Küche und ein dahinterliegendes Dienstmädchenzimmer.
Mit Büchern, Filmen und einem Theaterstück über ihr Leben und Lebenswerk ist Charlotte von Mahlsdorf weltberühmt geworden. Regelmäßig werden im Gutshaus Veranstaltungen, wie Konzerte, Theateraufführungen und Lesungen durchgeführt.
